SCHOOL HOUSE
ROCKFORD, OH
Part of the property where SchoolHouse Farms currently resides has been held continuously by Vaughn’s family since 1827. The history of the tools found on the property from nearly 10,000 years ago (the Early Ancient Period) intertwines closely with the rise of the maize (corn) industry in North America.
In 1939, as World War II began, the building ceased to be used as a schoolhouse and fell into disrepair. In 2010, restoration of the school house was undertaken, and the school is now used as a farm office and function hall for local gatherings.

THE MILL
SOMERSWORTH, NH
The Great Falls Manufacturing Company was incorporated on June 11, 1823, at the site of Gershom Horne’s gristmill, waterworks and land adjacent to the 100-foot waterfall on the Salmon Falls River. The mill sits on the New Hampshire side of the Salmon Falls River in the town of Somersworth, with Berwick, ME on the opposite bank.
Mill #1, from where SchoolHouse Farms operates, utilized over 1,500 spindles, making 7,000 yards of cotton cloth per day – all powered by water. Just across the feed water canal, Boston and Maine Railroad opened a union station in 1886-87. The canal, train station and operational tracks still exist to this day.
