Chief Financial Officer - Crystal Springs Inc. - Assonet, MA 02702
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial Leadership
- Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to align financial plans with Crystal Springs' strategic vision and mission, providing data-driven insights to support informed decision-making.
- Evaluate and advise on growth opportunities, including capital investments, debt management strategies, and long-term funding sources to support expansion and innovation.
- Lead organizational budget planning and oversee cash flow forecasting; analyze variances, identify trends, and recommend proactive strategies to address challenges and opportunities.
- Provide regular financial updates and scenario analyses to the Board's Finance/Investment Committee, advising leadership on the organization’s financial position, key performance indicators, and emerging risks.
- Develop financial models and frameworks to assess strategic initiatives, resource allocation, and sustainability of programs, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
- Financial Operations and Compliance
- Direct the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant accounting.
- Support payroll, which reports to the Director of Human Resources.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with GAAP standards.
- Manage the annual audit process and oversee preparation and timely submission of the IRS Form 990, Uniform Financial Report (UFR), and other regulatory filings.
- Serve as the primary liaison for all banking and funding agency relationships, including contracts and regulatory matters.
- Partner with external auditors, agencies, and financial consultants to resolve financial or regulatory concerns.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as organizational policies and industry regulations.
- Monitor and manage investment and cash flow accounts to maximize returns and operational liquidity while adhering to restrictions and regulations.
- Assess and manage the organization’s debt structure, including evaluating current obligations and developing strategies to optimize debt management in alignment with future expansion opportunities.
- Oversee vendor management and evaluation processes to ensure optimal service delivery, competitive pricing, and alignment with organizational needs and goals.
- Provide oversight and management of assets held for others, including client funds, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and fiduciary responsibility.
- Governance, Risk Management, and Systems Optimization
- Implement and strengthen internal controls to protect organizational assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Identify areas of opportunity within financial systems and processes and implement improvements for efficiency and transparency.
- Lead the development and oversight of financial provisions in contracts and agreements, collaborating with external auditors and funding agencies.
- Provide support in budgeting for grant proposals, ensuring alignment with the strategic priorities of the organization.
- Information Technology Oversight
- Direct the Managed IT Service Company to ensure effective implementation, monitoring, and management of IT systems.
- Administratively oversee the IT Technician, who will work in collaboration with the Managed IT Service Company to deliver effective on-site support and troubleshooting for day-to-day operations.
- Balance strategic oversight of IT planning and cybersecurity compliance with day-to-day management handled by external providers.
- Oversee IT budget planning, disaster recovery protocols, and long-term infrastructure needs.
- Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Directly supervise the Finance Team (Accounting Manager, AP Clerk, AR Clerk).
- Mentor, evaluate, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the finance and accounting team.
- Collaborate closely with the COO, CNO, Director of Human Resources, and program leaders to ensure alignment of financial operations with organizational and programmatic goals.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field (required); CPA strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in financial management, preferably within a non-profit organization.
- Proven expertise in GAAP standards, financial reporting, audits, and compliance.
- Demonstrated experience in cash flow management, budget planning, and strategic forecasting.
- Familiarity with IT oversight or managing relationships with external IT service providers.
- Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., Community Brands MIP) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with experience engaging Boards, leadership teams, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to lead and inspire teams while balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
